1997-Overview-Sonny and Brenda grew closer than they had been in months. Despite her marriage to Jax, Brenda continued to find ways to be with Sonny. Threats, notes, ominous warnings and mysterious gifts began arriving for Brenda.
Miranda and Jax came to an agreement about a divorce, however it was clear that Miranda was not over their love. Jax found Sonny guarding Brenda, who was receiving more threats. Harry Silver blamed them for Lily's death.
Harry kidnapped Brenda, and took her to the catacombs and had her call Sonny. 
Harry detonated an explosion that sealed Sonny and Brenda in the catacombs. Jax, Mike, Mac, and Jason rescued them. Sonny watched as Brenda and Jax reunited. Brenda, finally feeling secure, embraced Sonny on the docks and they re-pledged their love to each other. Jax roared out of town on his motorcycle.
Katherine survived surgery to repair the damage from the gunshot wound she received from the hand of Stefan .Katherine turned down Mac's proposal.
 Even after she came to realize that Stefan paralyzed her, Katherine fell deeper in love with him.
Laura stunned everyone when she came "back from the dead." Laura was equally angry at her sister-in-law Bobbie. She could not understand why Bobbie would ever get involved with an unscrupulous person like Stefan. His fury growing, Stefan coldly ordering her to leave the country or he would tell Luke he fathered her son, Nikolas. Alexis faked evidence that Catherine was Stephan's long lost sister, after breaking up with Catherine he found that Alexis faked everything and ordered her out of his life. Alexis found that she was actually his sister.The relationship between Tony and Carly began to erode as Carly grew jealous of Tony's attention to his ex-wife. Carly spent a night of passion with a drunken A.J. Carly's deceptions caught up with her in late May, and Tony walked out on her.
Tony and Carly reconciled when she announced she was pregnant. Carly drugged AJ and made it appear as though he had passed out from drinking.
AJ's suspicions about Carly  began to increase.  AJ remembered the night he and Carly had made love. AJ then realized that he might be the father of her baby. AJ demanded a paternity test once the baby was born. Carly gave birth to a baby boy. Tony was aware that there was more to Carly than met the eye and he was tired of all her lies and schemes. Carly claimed that she had an affair with Jason and that he was the father of her baby.
Emily reacted to her family strife by partying with her friend Matt. . Drugs took Matt's life, and Emily, on heroin, nearly jumped off the Quartermaine roof.
Audrey Hardy's two granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Webber, arrived in Port Charles. Sarah was everything a parent could wish for in a child, while Elizabeth was a schemer who was jealous of her "perfect" sister. Elizabeth liked Lucky very much and tried her best to make him like her, too. Liz became upset over the attention Sarah received from Lucky and she set Sarah up in a cheating scandal. Sarah then agreed not to tell Audrey about Elizabeth's schemes as long as Elizabeth agreed to get counseling.
Lois showed up with Brooke Lynn.
Dorman sued Monica for sexual harassment. Lois confronted Ned, telling him that she could handle his affair with Monica, but not his lies. Upon hearing Ned blackmailed Justus. Lois left town again.
Monica was found guilty of sexual harassment. Emily nearly died from a heroin overdose.
Dorman had been murdered by a hitman known as the "Tin Man," who set Brenda up to take the fall for Dorman's murder. Sonny and Brenda went on the run. Robin tried to convince Jason to leave the mob and even asked Sonny to fire him. Sonny complied with Robin's request, but Jason knew that Robin had been behind it. Jason and Robin realized that their differences were irreconcilable and they broke up. Brenda accepted Sonny's marriage proposal. Sonny told Brenda that the only way for them to be safe was for him to leave the mob and for them to leave Port Charles without a trace. Sonny realized that he could never keep Brenda safe. With that in mind, Sonny told Jason that he was going to leave the mob and Port Charles, but without Brenda.  Sonny decided to leave Brenda at the alter.
Brenda was devastated when Sonny did not arrive for their wedding. Jax helped Brenda get her life back together. Brenda wound up in the psychiatric ward of General Hospital.  Word had leaked out that Sonny was gone and one of Sonny's enemies tried to kill Jason during a welcome home party at Luke's. Nikolas was shot.
Looking for closet space in Kevin's lighthouse, Lucy found a box with disturbing contents regarding his late father. Lucy began to suspect that Kevin's father, Dr. Victor Collins was alive. Lucy had bad vibes and scary visions when Kevin accepted a job with the Cassadines. Fearful for Kevin, Lucy pleaded with Felicia to investigate the Cassadines.
Dr. Tom Hardy's obsessive vendetta against the Cassadines contributed to his breakup with Felicia. She reconnected with Mac Scorpio.Kevin's father, showed up in Port Charles. Felicia's stalker was soon exposed and she was able to take control of her life back.
Mac and Felicia's latest case involved helping a woman track down her deadbeat husband who looked exactly like Mac. Mac and Felicia, however, did not realize that Tess and James were in cahoots. Tess and James tricked Mac and Felicia into believing that James was dead. Tess and James then subdued Mac and while Tess kept him prisoner, James assumed Mac's life in Port Charles. Even Felicia fell for James's act, although she was starting to become suspicious. Meanwhile, Tess lead Mac to believe that she had imprisoned him as a substitute for her "dead" husband James.
